WRITING RETREAT

THE flame in every hand:

WRITING AS A CONTEMPLATIVE ACT

June 15, 16 & 17, in The Catoctin Mountains

With Poet /Songwriter/Storyteller John Terlazzo.

We will gather together at the Quaker-owned Camp Catoctin in Thurmont, Maryland (just a 90 minute drive from York, PA.)  Camp Catoctin is nestled in an upland saddle between two ridges in the Catoctin Mountains.  It offers a spacious stone lodge (for our sessions), lots of cabins to spread out in and plenty of tent sites, large bathrooms & bath houses, with hot water showers, kitchen & dining hall, a beautiful pond, creek exploration and hiking. It is often 5 or 10 degrees cooler at Catoctin than it is in near-by Frederick (A perfect fit for June!).   We'll gather in The Lodge to do our writing sessions, meditate, chant, laugh, sing, talk, dance & howl .  Bring your notebook & pen & join us as we wander, write, whisper & wail beneath the June stars. As in the past, we’ll do some new writing experiments together - as well as work with symbols, images & archetypes deep within ourselves & deep within folktales & stories from all over the world. There will be ample opportunity for folks to read their work aloud, or listen as they like. As always, the retreat is OPEN TO BOTH EXPERIENCED & FIRST-TIME WRITERS ALIKE, & is uniquely designed to accommodate both in an environment that is simultaneously safe & welcoming on one hand, & energetically stimulating & challenging on the other.

The price for this year's retreat is only $150 (if registered by May 31st – after that it’s $180) & includes all activities, lodging Friday & Saturday nights, 3 delicious vegetarian meals on Saturday as well as breakfast & lunch on Sunday.
